Energy Efficient Lights and Lamps

Energy Efficient Lights and Lamps

Lighting is the one thing we all can do without. Our needs for lamps and lights have only widened and it is only natural that the manufacturing industry should continue to seek ways to revolutionize power-hungry old lamps into energy efficient ones.

The average household consumes around 24 percent of energy for lighting and appliances. It’s a significant number and you can save money by choosing and using energy efficient light and lamps for all your needs at home.

Choosing energy efficient lights and lamps for your lighting fittings can save you a significant amount for your household budget for energy. They use less energy and are much longer lasting than incandescent bulbs. The average life span of energy efficient lights is almost 10 times than of its competition. You save more money by cutting your electric bill and with longer replacements.

The type of lamps you use at home can have a major effect in your energy use. By far, incandescent light bulbs are the least efficient when it comes to lighting. It uses far more energy to give off light, by heating a tungsten element rather than creating light.

On the other hand, the compact fluorescent lamps are very energy efficient. A 15W fluorescent lamp can produce the same light output of a 75W incandescent light bulb. It uses very little energy in providing the same light output.

Now a days THE options for energy efficient light are MUCH (far) wider. There are more types of lighting and lamps which we can choose from without sacrificing energy efficiency. In fact, the lighting industry is making innovations for lamps and light to be more energy efficient than it already is.

Compact Fluorescent Lights (CFL) and Light Emitting Diode (LED). CFL is simply a miniature version of full sized fluorescent lamps. They are screwed to a standard socket and they give off warmer tones of light like an incandescent bulb. While LEDs are solid small light bulbs, they both have the same energy efficiency of fluorescent lamps.

CFL also comes in different size and shapes. You can choose from styles like stick, circular, square or globe. They also have different colors and can replace incandescent bulbs in most lighting fittings.

They are more efficient, less expensive and reduce air and water pollution. They have higher quality light than the old full sized fluorescent tubes. They have warmer colors and has new electronic ballast that makes them steady and not to hum and flicker.

CFLs are four times more energy efficient than incandescent bulbs. They have longer life, and uses up to more than 80 percent less energy. Although initially the purchase price is more expensive, you save money because it uses less energy, therefore cutting your energy bills each month.

CFLs and LEDs are also environmental friendly. If a significant number of households replace one incandescent bulb with energy efficient CFL or LED, we will keep almost half a ton of CO2 out of our atmosphere. Your benefits for choosing energy efficient lights and lamps go a long way in saving the environment.

General Interior Decorating for Beginners

Whether you’re a professional interior decorator or a self-help individual who wants to make changes in your home, organizing and planning is the first thing to consider for a general interior decorating job. It is where everything should start as everything should fall according to a planned segment of work.

The market is flooded with many things about home decorating. It will take you forever in choosing the right one if you don’t have a specific decorating style in your mind. The internet offers many different styles to choose from. You can get one for yourself and decide whether it’s feasible for your budget and for your taste.

Generally, not all general interior decorating jobs need to be expensive. It doesn’t have to be a major work, and most main problems need only simple solutions. All you have to do is make an overall assessment of the place and judging from your preferred style, make a quick estimation of what is to be done.

When walking in an interior space of a building, you will notice that your eye is looking for something soothing to focus on and looking for a main element. That element is called the “focal point” of the room. A lovely garden viewed from the living room’s picture window is a wonderful focal point. The fireplace, whether big or small, may also be considered a good focal point. If the room has no distinctive quality, you have to create one. The idea of a focal point is to have something to focus on to and linger for a while.

Make alternative sets of decors for each item, like throw pillow covers, table covers, draperies, etc. Change them as often as the season changes. In that order, your set will harmonize with the changing time of year. Variation is much more dynamic in general interior decorating.
